Frequently Asked Questions

See below answers to our most-asked questions, if you require any more detail then please pop in or get in touch via the contact page

Can I hold my event at the shop?
We are still a small team all with secondary jobs so although we would like to say an unconditional ‘yes’ there are a lot of factors we have to consider, including our own availability and resources. In order to cover our overheads, we do charge for hiring the space - see our Space Hire page for rates. Send us an email with the full details and we can discuss. If you are an author wanting to hold a book launch or story time, then that is possible too!

Do you have wi-fi?
We do, yes.

Can you get this specific book by this specific author?
We can try - send us an email or chat to us in person, if we can order it in for you then we certainly will.

Do you accept donations of books?
Yes we do, see below quick guidelines on the options for your donations.
- Second-hand books for sale: we will clean them up and price them according to condition - these go on our shelves to find a loving new home!
- Reading room: the books in our reading room aren’t for sale so you can loan them to us for a set period of time, or donate them so that we can build a library of books for everyone to have access to. This is a good option for rare or academic books.
- Collaging: we have a craft room and there is always a need for collaging materials. Books that are not in a saleable condition (torn covers, stained pages, etc) and books that contain a lot of imagery are great for this. They will have a new lease of life as part of a work of art!

Will you sell my book/art/pottery?
The likely answer is ‘yes’ - see our Creatives page for more details.

Do you do group or bulk discounts?
Yes: we can offer bulk discounts for your bookclubs, for events or for various other group initiatives. Drop us an email with the details of the book and the quantity and we’ll do the rest!

Do you do book clubs?
We do: our book clubs are held every 5-6 weeks. The book and date are announced on our social media pages, usually in the pinned post and our Events page.
There are also other book clubs in Folkestone for whom we provide the books including @FolkestoneReads and @BooksThatBindUs.

We also host writing groups! There are two free ones (on Sunday and Saturday mornings, 10-12) and we host Kerry Ryan’s Collectivity courses throughout the year too.

How accessible are you?
Check out our accessibility info page for full details - if there’s something you specifically need then please get in touch.

How can I support you?
To support us financially, buy books! If you can’t visit in person, then use our affiliate Bookshop.org page to order online or use Libro.fm to buy audiobooks and still support us. To support us as a community space, then the best ways are by contributing to our Pay It Forward board, donating tea and coffee, and telling everyone you know about us in person and by sharing on social media.
