Local Author Event: Unlimited Tenacity
Join us Thursday October 29th at 6:30pm to celebrate D. H. Yeats’s new novel: Unlimited Tenacity with a reading from the author.
Set in the early 1990s, as the Channel Tunnel nears completion, the world stands on the threshold between analogue and digital.
Recovering from a breakdown in a house on France’s Côte d’Opale, twenty-year-old Little Zinny must confront the trauma of a failed search for her father and the fragile sense of self she has lost. Guided by photographer, Pete, and the diaries of her namesake, Zinny, she begins the journey of healing.
Three voices from different generations are on a quest for change, will they be able to recover from past traumas, shred their innermost secrets and acknowledge their true feelings as they strive for a different world?
Now back in East Kent, D H Yeats has lived in the West Midlands, Paris and London working in the book trade and then in West End theatre. After taking time out to study at SOAS, he returned to Performing Arts undertaking publicity and production for fringe organisations. His debut novel The Opal Causeway was published in 2022. Unlimited Tenacity is the sequel.
He explains: “I wrote this book partly because although it is fiction, it draws on a lot of history that is marginalised. The subjects of HIV/AIDS and anorexia were very current at the time this is set (1990s) and I was very much inspired by re-reading an article that Avril Mair wrote in iD magazine. I have experience of HIV and I know people who had anorexia and strove to beat it. I remember Diana Princess of Wales’s speech on eating disorders and listening to it again rang very true to me. Then of course there was the constant abundant racism and I also know how many environment projects were funded by EEC grants. There have always been literacy fraudsters and intellectual property thieves and I also wanted to bring in certain literary references which I find relevant to my text but these are for the reader to discover!”
Refreshements will be available, the space is always alcohol free.
