Bodily Fluids - Poetry Reading

£0.00

Join us for the Folkestone launch of Bodily Fluids by Len Lukowski, with guest readings from Bob Chicalors, Holly Casio and declan wiffen.

Bodily Fluids is a charged, unflinching examination of desire, transgression, and the shifting boundaries of selfhood. Moving through sex, memory, digital detritus, and fleeting intimacies, Lukowski crafts poems that are both vulnerable and wry, attuned to the body’s betrayals and pleasures. With cinematic clarity and a sharp lyricism, the collection navigates the intersections of queerness, masculinity, and transformation, refusing easy narratives of identity or resolution. Bodily Fluids pulses with restless energy, mapping the residue of encounters, the weight of longing, and the quiet violences of simply existing.

'A very strong debut collection which brilliantly carries forward poetry and its queer subjects into places it may never have been before' — Andrew McMillan

'Lukowski's poems sing in this beautiful collection that centres the queer, trans masc body as a site of ecstatic sensation and relation, of yearning and indifference, and of radical hope' — Peter Scalpello

'I love these gorgeously detailed poems that are brimming with dark humour and libido. They boldly explore desires that are often left unspoken, silenced, and repressed.' — Golnoosh Nour

'I was left marvelling at a collection that manages to be so much at once - beautiful, surprising and violently alive' — Hannah Copley

Len Lukowski writes poetry, fiction and memoir. He's had writing in 14 Poems, Extra Teeth and Fierce Salvage. He's played in the queer punk bands Jean Genet, Faggot and Twinken Park. He is a recipient of the Wasafiri prize for New Writing. His pamphlet The Bare Thing was published in 2022 by Broken Sleep Books and Bodily Fluids is his first collection.

Bob Chicalors is a zine maker, queer historical researcher and occasional drag queen. He’s just started a PhD looking at zines and how they document place, loves talking about long-gone gay bars and can be found fiddling as Janet District Council as part of Queer Cxntry.

Holly Casio (they/them) makes queer zines and diy comics about pop culture, fandoms, anti-fascism, Bruce Springsteen, and societal collapse.

declan wiffen (he/him) is a teacher and writer based in Kent. He has run a range of writing courses, including Cruising Nature, FUCK Plants and Gay Gardens, which all think through questions about queer ecologies. His pamphlet, indiscriminate lanking, came out with Invisible Hand Press in 2022, and his upcoming writing course—for people in Swale (and possibly wider Kent) is called the undesirables.
